Sales Launch for The Cortland at 555 West 22nd Street in Chelsea, Manhattan

Sales have officially launched at The Cortland, a 25-story condominium building at 555 West 22nd Street in the West Chelsea neighborhood. Developed by Related Companies, in partnership with Mitsui Fudosan America, the nearly 300-foot-tall new structure was designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects with interiors by Olson Kundig and will hold 144 residential units. The Cortland will have a mix of two- to five-bedroom residences, as well as a series of penthouses. Related Sales LLC and CORE Group are the exclusive co-sales and marketing agents for the development, with residences starting at $4.05 million.

Waldorf Astoria Renovation and Partial Residential Conversion Progresses in Midtown East, Manhattan

Work continues to progress on the renovation and partial residential conversion of the Waldorf Astoria at 305 Park Avenue in Midtown East. Developed by Andrew Miller of Dajia US, the project is dubbed “The Towers of the Waldorf Astoria” and will yield 375 residences designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill and Jean-Louis Deniot that range from studios to sprawling penthouses, as well as an extensive amenity offering. Douglas Elliman Development Marketing is handling sales and marketing of the units, Suffolk Construction Corporation is the general contractor, Pierre-Yves Rochon is in charge of the revamped hotel interiors, and Simon de Pury is the residential art curator for the 625-foot-tall Art Deco landmark, which occupies a full city block bound by Park Avenue to the west, East 49th Street to the south, East 50th Street to the north, and Lexington Avenue to the east.

Closings Underway for SHoP Architects’ 111 West 57th Street in Midtown, Manhattan

Closings have begun for the 46 condominium units within the main tower of 111 West 57th Street, a 1,428-foot residential supertall in Midtown. Designed by SHoP Architects and developed by JDS DevelopmentProperty Markets Group, and Spruce Capital Partners, the 84-story edifice stands as the world’s most slender building. Studio Sofield is the interior designer and The Corcoran Group is leading sales and marketing for the residences, which also include 14 homes within the restored Steinway Hall building in the podium. WSP is the structural engineer, RWDI consulted with the design of the 800-ton tuned mass damper, Jaros, Baum & Bolles is the MEP engineer, R&R Scaffolding Ltd. provided the building maintenance unit (BMU) sitting atop the crown, and BuroHappold Engineering is the façade consultant for the project, which is located between Sixth and Seventh Avenues on Billionaires’ Row.

Demolition has begun on 665 Fifth Avenue, where Rolex is replacing its former 12-story International Style headquarters with a modern 21-story tower in Midtown. Designed by David Chipperfield Architects and developed by Rolex Realty Company LLC, the new building will feature office space and retail frontage. Howard I. Shapiro & Associates filed permits last summer for the project, which is located on an 11,050-square-foot parcel at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and East 53rd Street.
