Developer Acquires Assemblage At 143 East 60th Street, Plans Residential Tower With Retail, Midtown East

Back in June, Kuafu Properties was in contract to purchase the assemblage spanning 143-161 East 60th Street, on the northern edge of Midtown East, and now the Chinese developer has closed on the acquisition, according to Commercial Observer. The site has a nearly 20,000 square-foot footprint, and roughly 280,000 square feet of development potential. Kuafu plans to build a luxury residential tower with a large retail base, although the existing six low-rise buildings must first be demolished.

Nine stories of condos may replace a little brick walkup on the corner of Second Avenue and East 45th Street. Architect Karl Fischer filed applications earlier today for a 100-foot-tall building at 843 Second Avenue.

Foundation Work Underway At 70-Story, 365-Unit 15 Hudson Yards Tower

Back in July, YIMBY provided you a construction update on 15 Hudson Yards, Related Companies’ 70-story, 960,000 square-foot mixed-use tower planned at Hudson Yards, in Midtown West. Foundation work is now well underway, and rebar as well as the first steel columns can been seen protruding from concrete. The building will include 365 residential units, which will be a mix of rentals and condominiums. The Culture Shed will extend horizontally east from the tower’s base. Diller Scofidio + Renfro and the Rockwell Group are designing, and completion is slated for 2018.

New Renderings Show Fresh Views of One Vanderbilt

SL Green’s planned tower next to Grand Central is making significant headway, and demolition for the site’s former buildings is already ongoing. And while we had previously revealed several prospective views of the 1,500-foot supertall, which was approved by the City Council this past May, a tipster has sent along a few more renderings, giving a more comprehensive overview of the tower within the context of its Midtown surrounds.

65-Story, 268-Unit Residential Tower At 252 East 57th Street Tops Out, Midtown East

Earlier this year, YIMBY revealed new renderings of World Wide Group’s and Rose Associates’ 65-story residential tower underway at 252 East 57th Street, in Midtown East, and now the tower has topped-out. The building will include 268 units, split between 93 condominiums and 175 apartments, and amenities include a porte cochére, a 34th-floor terrace and a 75-foot-long pool and spa. Retail will be included on the ground and second floors. SOM is the design architect, while SLCE Architects is serving as architect of record. Occupancy is expected in late 2016.

Planned 38-Story, 310-Key Hotel Filed At 1150 Sixth Avenue In Midtown

In August of 2014, YIMBY revealed renderings of Fortuna Realty’s planned luxury hotel building at 1150 Sixth Avenue, in Midtown between West 44th and 45th Streets, and now the developer has filed applications for the project. The 38-story, 310-key hotel will stand 415 feet tall and measure 138,458 square feet. Hotel rooms will average 447 square feet and begin on the fourth floor. The lobby, a lounge, spa, restaurant, ballroom, and meeting spaces will all be located on the lower levels. Ismael Leyva is the architect of record, and permits were filed last May to demolish an eight-story building.

Permits Filed: Hauser & Wirth Gallery at 542 West 22nd Street, Chelsea

Last month, YIMBY reported on demolition applications for a squat little three-story commercial building at 542 West 22nd Street, where art gallery Hauser & Wirth plans to build its newest outpost.

Now the London-based art seller has filed plans for its new five-story building between 10th and 11th Avenues.

Development Site At 677-685 Lexington Avenue Hits The Market, Midtown East

Meringoff Properties and the Riese Organization are placing the low-rise commercial properties spanning 677-685 Lexington Avenue on the market, according to The Wall Street Journal. The assemblage, in Midtown East at East 56th Street, boasts roughly 115,000 square feet, and is primed for a residential or hotel development. Eastern Consolidated is marketing the properties, which include a two-story corner building and five-story commercial structure, whose leases expire shortly.

10 Hudson Yards Celebrates Last Concrete Pour, 52-Story Office Building In Hudson Yards

In late July, YIMBY brought you a construction update on 10 Hudson Yards, the first of Related and Oxford Properties’ planned Hudson Yards towers. Today, the team will celebrate the topping-out of the 52-story, 1.7-million square-foot building, which will stand 905 feet to its pinnacle. Coach, Inc., L’Oréal USA, SAP, and Vayner Media have all leased space, bringing the tower to 85% occupancy. The skyscraper will officially open to tenants in early 2016.

Revealed: 343 West 47th Street, Residential Renovation and Expansion in Hell’s Kitchen

The bustling blocks of the mid to upper-40s are a bit of an urban oddity, existing within the low-rise confines of Hell’s Kitchen, but abutting the skyscraper canyons of Midtown. And while most of the area is already built-out, a few opportunities for infill both large and small still exist, like at 343 West 47th Street, where an existing structure from 1920 is now being renovated and expanded.
