Work Appears to Stall at 251 West 14th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan

YIMBY went to check out the site of 251 West 14th Street in Chelsea, where work on an 11-story residential building appears to have stalled. The bottom floors and lower section of the superstructure have been completed, while construction has yet to reach the cantilevering top floors. Isay Weinfield collaborated with FORM4 Design Studio PLLC to design the project. Pizzarotti is in charge of the build, which is expected to yield a total of 25 condominiums.

Construction Tops Out on DDG’s 532 West 20th Street in Chelsea

Construction has topped out at 532 West 20th Street in Chelsea. The 11-story residential development rose quickly since YIMBY’s last update in August 2019, when only the first few floors were built. Located between Tenth Avenue and Eleventh Avenue, the project is designed by design-build firm DDG, which purchased the plot for $24.25 million in 2014. The building will contain 27,019 square feet of residential space divided into nine apartments, averaging 3,000 square feet apiece.

Turkevi Center’s Glass Façade Closes in on Completion at 821 First Avenue in Midtown East

Installation of the reflective glass curtain wall on the Turkevi Center at 821 First Avenue is nearing the finish line. The panels gracefully wrap around the curved corners of the 563-foot-tall superstructure in the Midtown East neighborhood of Turtle Bay. Perkins Eastman is the designer of the 35-story mixed-use development, which will eventually serve as the consulate of the Republic of Turkey.

Façade Work Continues on Gene Kaufman’s 305 West 48th Street in Hell’s Kitchen

Exterior work is making steady progress on the topped-out Gene Kaufman-designed hotel at 305 West 48th Street in Hell’s Kitchen. Located between Eighth and Ninth Avenues, the 303-foot-tall, 27-story tower will contain 211 hotel rooms to help sate the booming demand for lodging in the tourism-heavy Times Square area. Bright Management is listed as the developer and Rockwell Group is in charge of designing the building’s interiors and amenity spaces.

30 West 39th Street Rises Past Podium Setback in Midtown

Construction has passed the podium levels at 30 West 39th Street, a 300-room hotel in Midtown. Designed by Peter Poon Architects and developed by Fortuna Realty, the reinforced concrete structure will eventually top out at 27 stories and stand 323 feet high. Leeding Builders Group, LLC is the general contractor for the 133,500-square-foot-project.

Margaritaville Resort at 560 Seventh Avenue Reaches Top Floors in Times Square

The Margaritaville Resort at 560 Seventh Avenue in Times Square has climbed to the pinnacle. Work on the curtain wall has also moved along quickly and is nearing the upper floors of the reinforced concrete superstructure. Designed by Stonehill & Taylor Architects and developed by Sharif El-Gamal of Soho Properties along with MHP Real Estate Services, the nearly $300 million project will help fulfill the booming demand for hotel space as tourism to New York City and areas like Times Square continues to rise. The 29-story tower is located at the corner of Seventh avenue and West 40th Street and will contain 234 rooms.

Window Installation Progresses at 232 East 54th Street in Midtown East

Window installation is underway at 232 East 54th Street, a topped-out residential building in Midtown East. Designed by Ismael Leyva Architects, the extruded square-shaped, reinforced concrete structure rises 420 feet tall and features a simple grid of windows on all four sides. Elk Investors was listed as the exclusive developer of the building, though ownership may have fully transferred to Mossanen Group and an LLC known as East 54th St. Properties, as per YIMBY’s previous updates on the construction site.

The Hard Rock Hotel is now above street level at 159 West 48th Street in Times Square. The 225,000-square-foot, 445-room hotel is designed by Berg + Moss Architects and is being developed by Extell and Hard Rock International.

Construction on 249 East 50th Street Approaches Halfway Mark in Midtown East

The reinforced concrete superstructure at 249 East 50th Street is approaching the halfway mark in Midtown East. The 15-story, 151-foot-tall residential building has risen steadily since reaching street level near the end of last summer. The project is designed by Isaac Stern and is being developed by Tun Kyaw, who purchased the land for $17 million.
