26-Story, 500-Key Hotel Revealed At 351 West 38th Street, Garment District

Towards the end of last summer, YIMBY reported on applications for a 21-story, 400-key hotel at 338 West 39th Street, in the Garment District. That building will be developed by Sam Chang’s McSam Hotel Group on the 39th Street side of the block-thru site, and Quadrum Global is planning to develop a separate hotel on the site’s southern half, fronting 38th Street. According to The Real Deal, Quadrum Global plans a 26-story, 500-key hotel, which Marvel Architects is designing. Each hotel is expected to measure roughly 125,000 square feet, and the existing commercial building will be demolished next year move out next year.

Ceruzzi Hopes To Begin Construction At 520 Fifth Avenue Next Spring

Developer Louis Ceruzzi has already begun demolition work at his property at 520 Fifth Avenue. We now know that construction will begin before New Years on the 71-story Handel Architects-designed tower, courtesy of an interview Ceruzzi gave to the Commercial Observer. In the interview, he also gave an update on his development at 147 East 86th Street. He said there is much work to be done relating to the Second Avenue Subway project, but real work should start in March.

Construction To Begin On The Fitzroy At 514 West 24th Street, Chelsea

For over a year, YIMBY has been reporting on plans for condominiums near the High Line at 514 West 24th Street in Chelsea. Now, construction of the building, dubbed the Fitzroy, is set to commence. Permits have been approved, a source told YIMBY, which means work can start as soon as possible. The 10-story building will house 14 two- to five-bedroom units, plus ground floor retail. JDS Development Group and Largo Investments are the developers and Roman & Williams has designed the building. Sales have already launched, as has a website.

Midtown East’s Edgar J. Kaufman Conference Center Gets Landmarks Hearing

As the New York City Landmarks Preservation works to clear the backlog of items on its calendar for consideration since before 2010, it has mostly dealt with buildings, a.k.a. potential individual landmarks. However, there have been some interiors considered, such as the Osborne Apartments lobby. Another such case is the Edgar J. Kaufman Conference Center at 809 United Nations Plaza in Midtown East.
