Church of St. John the Baptist To Be Converted Into 30,000 Square Feet Of Retail At 210 West 31st Street, Chelsea

KBS Capital has entered into contract with Onyx Equities to acquire an 80 percent stake in the Church of St. John the Baptist, a two-story, 23,110-square-foot structure at 210 West 31st Street in Chelsea. KBS and Onyx plan to convert the structure into roughly 30,000 square feet of retail space, The Real Deal reported. The space will be divided between three units, all with space on the ground floor and additional space on the cellar and second levels. A roof patio could also be constructed. KBS is set to pay $39.8 million for the stake. A timeline regarding the sale or construction has not been disclosed. Alteration permits have not been filed at this time.

Scoping Out The Views From The Bryant, 33-Story Hotel And Condominium Tower At 16 West 40th Street, Midtown

It was just weeks ago that The Bryant, a new building along the southern edge of Bryant Park, celebrated its topping out. YIMBY recently went all the way up to the penthouse terraces to check out the view. The Bryant, located at 16 West 40th Street, is a hybrid: the base contains 230 hotel rooms and, starting on the 16th floor, there will be 57 condominium units. Joining their lobbies on the ground floor will be a restaurant. HFZ Capital Group is the developer.

Construction Wraps On 53-Story, 600-Unit Mixed-Use Building At 551 Tenth Avenue, Midtown West

Construction appears to be nearly complete now that façade installation has finished on the 53-story, 600-unit mixed-use building under development at 551 Tenth Avenue, located between West 40th and 41st streets in Midtown West. The latest photo was taken by NY Constuction Photography. The most recent building permits have the tower, dubbed 555TEN, measuring 712,416 square feet and standing 610 feet in height.

Construction is just getting underway on 685 First Avenue in Midtown East, where a 460-foot-tall residential building will eventually fill a block-long hole in the ground between 39th and 40th streets. Now, we have new renderings for the tower, which is being designed by renowned Modernist architect Richard Meier.

In June, pawn shop owner Boris Aronov filed plans for a 220-foot-tall office building at 43 West 47th Street, in the block-long Diamond District in Midtown. Now, YIMBY has renderings for the development, which will replace a pair of smaller buildings between Fifth and Sixth avenues.

Excavation Work Underway For Nine-Story, 153,800-Square-Foot Commercial Project At 61 Ninth Avenue, Chelsea

Excavation and piling work are underway on the site of a planned nine-story, 153,754-square-foot commercial building at 61 Ninth Avenue, located on the corner of West 15th Street in Chelsea. The site can be seen thanks to a photo posted to the YIMBY Forums. The latest building permits indicate the project will rise 135 feet to its roof, or 175 feet if the bulkhead is included.

Landmarks Preservation Commission Calendars Designation of Waldorf Astoria Hotel Interiors

In June, YIMBY reported that major changes are ahead for the Waldorf Astoria New York hotel. Thanks to a move on Tuesday, there are unlikely to be too many changes that mar its historic design. The Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to calendar portions of the Art Deco skyscraper’s interior.
