Works Begins On Phase Two Of Hunters Point South Mega-Development, Long Island City

Earlier this year, construction wrapped up on the first phase of Long Island City’s Hunters Point South mega-development, which includes two residential towers with a total of 925 affordable units, plus a 1,100-seat school and a waterfront park. The city is now moving forward to build the infrastructure needed for the project’s second phase, and Curbed reports excavation work is well underway. The second phase will include, but is not limited to, a 1,193-unit mixed-income residential building, which is to be developed by TF Cornerstone and Selfhelp Community Services. Thousands of additional residential units are also in the works, along with retail and community space. Thomas Balsley Associates, Weiss/Manfredi, and ARUP are designing the public park that will eventually line the waterfront. The park and infrastructure work is expected to be complete by 2018.

Developers Plan 60-Story Hotel-Condo Tower At 1710 Broadway, Midtown

In late 2014, YIMBY brought you conceptual renderings of the possible mixed-use tower that could rise at 1710 Broadway, between West 54th and 55th Street in Midtown, and now Extell Development is teaming up with C&K Properties to build a 60-story condo-hotel tower. Extell paid roughly $247 million for a 39 percent stake in the project, according to The Real Deal. Retail space will likely be included in the planned tower, which could be as large as 370,000 square feet, although additional air rights may be used which would increase the project’s size. A six-story, 83,000 square-foot office building must first be demolished.

First Tower Of “Journal Squared” Tops Out At 53 Stories In Journal Square, Jersey City

Late in 2014, YIMBY reported on the ground breaking of Journal Squared’s first residential tower, located right around the corner from the Journal Square PATH station, in northwestern Jersey City. On Wednesday, Kushner Real Estate Group topped out the 53-story, 538-unit building, which stands 563 feet above street level, according to the Jersey Journal. Façade work is also now underway, and completion of the tower is expected in 2016. Once completed, Journal Squared will boast three towers and 1,838 residential units, along with 36,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space. The second tower to rise will stand 70 stories and the final tower will top out at 60 stories. HWKN is the design architect, while Handel Architects is serving as the architect of record.

Reveal For 12-Story, 75-Unit Rental Building Planned At 69 East 125th Street, East Harlem

Over the summer, a black-and-white rendering was posted at the site of the planned 12-story, 75-unit mixed-use building at 69 East 125th Street, in East Harlem, and now a higher resolution rendering has surfaced, per Real Estate Weekly. Kutnicki Bernstein Architects is designing the rental building, which will include 5,643 square feet of ground-floor retail space. Twenty percent of the residential units will be rented at below-market rates. The site’s predecessors were demolished this past August, and completion is expected in the spring of 2017. Greystone Property Development is behind the project.
