Microsoft is planning to open their first Manhattan flagship store in the five-story building at 677 Fifth Avenue, between East 53rd and 54th Street, according to The Wall Street Journal. The structure has undergone an extensive renovation, acquiring a new façade and updated interior spaces. The store will span 22,269 square feet over five floors, and opening is expected on October 26th at noon.

Construction Begins on Virgin Hotel At 1225 Broadway, Midtown South

In August of 2014, YIMBY brought you the first glimpse of the 39-story, 465-key Virgin Hotel planned at 1225 Broadway, in Midtown South, and we revealed more renderings in January of this year. According to Commercial Observer, the developer has now broken ground on the 500,000 square-foot building, which will eventually contain 90,000 square feet of retail space. The hotel portion will measure 300,000 square feet, and 30,000 square feet will be designated as amenity space for guests. The Lam Group is the developer, while VOA Associates is the design architect, and completion is expected in 2018.

Retail Renovation and Expansion Planned At 399 Knickerbocker Avenue, Bushwick

Property owner Jenel Management is clearing out the three-story retail building at 399 Knickerbocker Avenue, in northern Bushwick, ahead of planned renovations, according to DNAinfo. The structure will be expanded and transformed into a 42,500 square-foot commercial building, featuring six retail units — three on the ground floor, followed by two on the second floor and one on the third. Adrian Figueroa’s Hudson Square-based SRA Architecture is designing, and the current retail tenant is preparing to vacate.
