Excavation Work for Brooklyn’s First Supertall Continues at 9 DeKalb Avenue, In Downtown Brooklyn

Major progress has been made for Brooklyn’s first supertall over the past several weeks. Excavation has continued apace, and more materials have also been delivered to 9 DeKalb Avenue as the year wraps up. The tower is the 6th-tallest building under construction in YIMBY’s end-of-year countdown, and will dramatically change the skyline of Brooklyn in the coming years. Designed by SHoP Architects and developed by JDS Development and the Chetrit Group, the 1,066-foot-tall residential and mixed-use project will house approximately 500 housing units atop its rejuvenation of an historic retail podium.

35 Hudson Yards, Neighborhood’s First Residential Supertall, Readies for Spring 2019 Opening As Work Nears Completion

Standing in between Kohn Pedersen Fox’s 55 Hudson Yards and Thomas Heatherwick’s Vessel staircase, 35 Hudson Yards rises 1,009 feet above the rail yards as the 10th-tallest skyscraper under construction in New York City. Designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill, the 92-story mixed-use building will house 143 condominiums, a 217-key Equinox Hotel from the 15th floor to the 29th floor, and retail shops on the ground floor and second floor. This will be the tallest residential building at Hudson Yards and the third tallest in the first phase of the $28 billion dollar complex. Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group Inc. are the developers of the 1.1 million square foot tower.

Phase II of URBY Harrison Opens at 777 South 3rd Street in Harrison, New Jersey

Located at 777 South 3rd Street in Harrison, New Jersey, the second phase of development at Harrison URBY has opened its doors. The site’s first building opened in this location back in 2017, and was quickly occupied. The interiors and exteriors are designed by Dutch firm Concrete Architects, with Phase II resulting in a total of 270 new residential apartments.

One of Brooklyn’s largest new developments has been proposed along Flatbush Avenue, at 625 Fulton Street, which could rise 941 feet to its rooftop. The site is a large trapezoidal piece of land just steps away from JDS Development’s 9 DeKalb Avenue. A major rezoning plan has been put forth that could potentially bring close to 1,800,000 gross square feet of mixed-use development to the nearly 89,000 square foot property, measuring about two acres in size. The site is bounded by Fulton Street to the south, Hudson Avenue to the west, DeKalb Avenue to the north, and Rockwell Place to the east.

With its reflective chevron window pattern on the north and south elevations, the glass residential building holds 1,260,000 square feet of space with 25,516 square feet of retail space on the ground floor. It was designed by Adamson Associates, and is being developed and marketed by Extell.
