Construction Reaches Halfway Point for 30 East 31st Street, Midtown

Construction is moving along quickly at 30 East 31st Street, in Midtown South, Manhattan. Builders are working on the 40-story high-rise, which will yield views of the Empire State Building and East River. Architect Morris Adjmi is responsible for the design, taking influence from surrounding Gothic architecture for the façade, and the structure is now over halfway to its parapet.

Today, YIMBY has the reveal for the updated design of 848 Lorimer Street, a six-story residential building in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. We last reported on the site in September, when the exterior featured arched masonry, and a modernist black metal façade with large windows. The site is seven blocks away from the Avenue M Subway Station, serviced by the Q train. The predominantly residential neighborhood is no stranger to developments of this height, especially along Ocean Avenue, but surrounding blocks are mainly populated with detached 2-3 story homes. ZHL Group is responsible for the development.

The completion of Two Trees’ tower at 300 Ashland Place has opened several opportunities for new retail in the neighborhood, and within the new storefronts, New York City’s first Whole Foods Market 365 is expected to open on Wednesday, January 31st. The grocery store is an offshoot of its parent company, and will feature cheaper prices with competitive selections marketed towards budget-conscious families, students, and commuters. The location is officially Fort Greene, Brooklyn, but it sits very close to Downtown Brooklyn.
