525 East 73rd Street [Commercial Observer]: The sale of 525 East 73rd Street has officially closed, with Memorial Sloan-Kettering paying a sum of $226 million per city files. Construction can now begin on a two-tower, 1.2 million square-foot medical complex, and “site preparation will resume within several weeks.”
Shared Equities Co. has filed applications for a seven-story, 24-unit mixed-use building measuring 19,824 square feet at the lots of 9-11 Cooper Street, in Inwood. Studio BLS Architects is designing, and the existing three-story townhouse was approved for demolition in March.
YIMBY has featured two stories on the new Census data so far: the first on the actual numbers, and the second on how New York City is growing far faster than anticipated, already almost reaching its projected population for 2020. But in terms of milestones, the biggest story of all is that the New York metropolitan area has now passed the 20 million person mark, with the 2014 estimate clocking in at 20,092,883 individuals.
Late last year, YIMBY reported that a new seven-story and 42-unit building was coming to 38-11 31st Street in Long Island City, designed by Morali Architects. In February, YIMBY covered a similar filing for 36-27 31st Street by the same architect. And now we can reveal both of the buildings, thanks to renderings sent along by Morali.
