Central Park Tower Stretches Toward Supertall Territory On Way to 1,550′ Pinnacle

After covering 220 Central Park South and 111 West 57^th Street, it’s time we cover the tallest of the three skyscrapers under construction on Midtown’s billionaire’s alley. 217 West 57^th Street is currently on track to reach 1,550 feet above the ground. Once complete, it will be the tallest residential skyscraper in the country and second tallest tower in the country. Extell Development is responsible for the project.

Permits Filed for the Bedford Union Armory’s 15-Story Residential Addition, Crown Heights, Brooklyn

Permits have been filed for a 15-story residential building at 1579 Bedford Avenue, also known as the Bedford Union Armory, in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. The site is three blocks away from the Franklin Avenue subway station, serviced by the 2, 3, 4 and 5 trains. Prospect Park is located just five blocks away. The development will create housing and a recreational center made affordable for community residents. Also included will be low-cost space for local non-profits, and a new medical facility for uninsured citizens of the city. The NYC Economic Development Corporation is behind the applications.

Permits Filed for 37-01 30th Street, Astoria, Queens

Permits have been filed for a seven-story mixed use building at 37-01 30^th Street in Astoria, Queens. The site is ten blocks away from the Astoria Boulevard subway station, serviced by the N and W trains. While the project is not close to any new development, it is on a retail-rich avenue, which includes several national-brand stores. An anonymous LLC is behind the applications.

Permits Filed for 695 Thwaites Place, Allerton, The Bronx

Permits have been filed for a six-story mixed-use building at 695 Thwaites Place, in the Allerton neighborhood of The Bronx. The site is two blocks away from the Pelham Parkway subway station, serviced by the 2 and 5 trains. Four blocks away is the New York Botanical Garden park, connected with the Bronx Zoo. Volmar Construction will be responsible for the development.

Morris Adjmi’s First Brooklyn Skyscraper at 550 Clinton Avenue Heads Back to LPC After Revisions

Recent new development in Downtown Brooklyn has been on a historic scale, having been ranked among the most significant growth spurts for a single neighborhood in the city’s history. Plans to build a 29-story residential tower at 550 Clinton Avenue in Clinton Hill will spread the boom slightly further out. YIMBY reported on the design in January of this year when it was first proposed to the Landmark Preservation Commission (LPC). After receiving feedback, its architect Morris Adjmi is returning to the LPC with what may be the final design.

Permits Filed for 16-Story Building at 2926 West 19th Street, Coney Island, Brooklyn

Permits have been pre-filed for a 16-story mid-rise as part of a larger mega-development at 2926 West 19^th Street, Coney Island, Brooklyn, which YIMBY first revealed back in January. The site is five blocks away from the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue subway station, serviced by the D, F, N, and Q trains, and right across the street from a multi-purpose baseball ballpark.

Permits have been filed for a 12-story mixed-use development at 1725 Village Lane, in Far Rockaway, Queens. The site will be a re-imagining of the mostly-abandoned Far Rockaway Shopping Center.

Durst’s 10 Halletts Point Gets New Renderings

A new partially-affordable housing project is getting ready to open at 10 Halletts Point, in Astoria, Queens. The 22-story mixed-use complex is rising at 26-01 1st Street, positioned right on the waterfront, across from Manhattan’s Yorkville. This is the first of a seven-building mega-development led by the Durst Organization to reinvigorate the Halletts Point peninsula. Once complete, the entirety will yield 2.4 million square feet of space and create 2,400 rental units, 480 of which will be affordable.

220 Central Park South Begins Losing Prominence As Exterior Work Nears Completion

Among New York City’s current skyscrapers under construction, none comes closer to supertall status without actually reaching it than 220 Central Park South, which stands 950 feet to its rooftop. Despite imminent overshadowing by Central Park Tower, which will rise 600 feet taller, it is still an impressive addition to the Midtown Manhattan skyline. Today, YIMBY has an update on exterior progress, which is nearing completion, even as the building’s actual prominence is already on the decline.

The Shed At Hudson Yards Announces First Commissions, Interior Renderings Revealed

As the largest planned development in the United States inches closer to completion, The Shed at Hudson Yards has announced the first group of commissions to be on display during the 2019 inaugural season. The Shed will be New York City’s first and only arts center dedicated to commissioning, producing, and presenting new work across the performing arts, visual arts, and pop culture areas. The mixed-use space is expected to be open to the public sometime in the spring of 2019.
