KPF’s 520 Fifth Avenue Supertall Rises Higher Above Midtown, Manhattan

Construction is steadily climbing on 520 Fifth Avenue, a 76-story residential supertall in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by Rabina, which took over from Ceruzzi Properties and SMI USA in 2019, the 1,000-foot-tall skyscraper will yield 507,608 square feet with 98 condominium units, as well as commercial space on the lower floors and four cellar levels. WSP is the structural engineer, DeSimone Consulting Engineers is the façade consultant, and Suffolk Construction is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the northwest corner of Fifth Avenue and West 43rd Street, one block north of Bryant Park.

City Agencies Approve Warehouse Conversion Project at 107 South Street in Seaport, Manhattan

The Department of Buildings and Landmarks Preservation Commission have approved plans to convert a warehouse at 107 South Street into a mixed-use residential property. Located in Lower Manhattan’s historic Seaport District, the building was previously occupied by a fish trading house, supplying seafood daily to the Fulton Market before it was relocated in 2005.

Demolition Finishes at 183 Chrystie Street on Manhattan’s Lower East Side

Demolition is wrapping up at 183 Chrystie Street, the site of a 17-story residential building on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Designed by GF55 Partners and developed by Omnia Group and Naveh Shuster, the 175-foot-tall structure will span 75,000 square feet and yield 57 units and ground-floor retail space. Alba Services is the demolition contractor for the property, which is located between Stanton and Rivington Streets, directly across from Sara D. Roosevelt Park.

165 Broome Street Progresses on Manhattan’s Lower East Side

Exterior work is continuing on 165 Broome Street, a 15-story affordable housing building on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Designed by Handel Architects and developed by Grand Street Guild Housing Development Fund Company, Grand Street Guild East Housing Development Fund Company, Southeast Grand Street Guild Housing Development Fund Company, and Clinton Broome Development LLC, the 235,235-square-foot structure is also known as “Building 3-5” and will yield 235 units in studio to three-bedroom layouts, and 65,668 square feet for parking space with a capacity for 126 vehicles. The development will eventually be joined by a 215-foot-tall, 16-story “Building 3-6” at 151 Broome Street to the east, and the properties are expected to yield a combined total of 480 units. Monadnock Construction is the general contractor for the project, which is located within the Seward Park Extension master plan and bound by Broome Street to the north, Pitt Street to the east, and Clinton Street to the west.
