YIMBY Scopes Views From SHoP’s Topped-Out ‘Brooklyn Tower’ at 9 DeKalb Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn

Construction has topped out on the newly renamed Brooklyn Tower, a 93-story supertall skyscraper and the tallest structure in the Outer Boroughs at 9 DeKalb Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn. Designed by SHoP Architects and developed by JDS, the 1,066-foot-tall tower will yield 550 residences, with 150 for purchase and 400 rentals with 30 percent of which reserved at affordable housing rates, as well as a 100,000-square-foot retail podium bound by Flatbush Avenue Extension to the northeast, Fleet Street to the northwest, and DeKalb Avenue to the south. The project also includes the refurbishing and re-purposing of the landmarked Dime Savings Bank of Brooklyn, which is being incorporated into the podium. Douglas Elliman is the exclusive marketing, sales, and leasing agent.

Permits have been filed for a 16-story mixed-use building at 470 Kent Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Located at the intersection of Division Avenue and Kent Avenue, the waterfront lot is walking distance from South Williamsburg stop on the East River Ferry and the Marcy Avenue subway station, serviced by the J, M, and Z trains. Naftali Group is listed as the owner behind the applications, along with the neighboring two mixed-use towers at 484 Kent Avenue, addressed as 480 and 490 Kent Avenue, and planned to rise 21 and 22 stories respectively.

Excavation For FIT’s New Academic Building Nears Completion at 220 West 28th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan

Excavation and foundation work are progressing at 220 West 28th Street, site of Fashion Institute of Technology‘s New Academic Building in the Garment District of Chelsea. Designed by SHoP Architects, the ten-story, 110,000-square-foot structure will rise from a slender rectangular plot between Seventh and Eighth Avenues. The site is within walking distance of Penn StationMadison Square Garden, and Moynihan Train Hall and is aiming for LEED Gold certification. EE Cruz & Company Inc. is the general contractor for the project.

Fifth Avenue Hotel Progresses at 1 West 28th Street in NoMad, Manhattan

Façade work is continuing to progress on The Fifth Avenue Hotel at 250 Fifth Avenue in NoMad. Designed by Perkins EastmanPBDW Architects, and Martin Brudnizki Design Studio and developed by Flaneur Hospitality, the project involves the construction of a 230-foot-tall, 24-story reinforced concrete tower and the renovation and hotel conversion of a 116-year-old McKim, Mead & White-designed building. CNY Group is the general contractor for the project, which is being built at the corner of Fifth Avenue and West 28th Street.
