Construction Workers on NYC’s Public Projects Make Up To 177% More Than Private Industry Counterparts

New York City’s infrastructure crisis stems from many issues, but one of the biggest problems in maintaining and expanding the city’s arteries are construction costs, which have ballooned into a stratosphere of unknown numbers and complete non-transparency on the part of city agencies. But now YIMBY has obtained data showing that salaries are up to 177% higher for unionized employees of contractors performing public works projects and building service work for government agencies than the prevailing wages of their respective private industry counterparts.

Five-Story Mansion To Replace Two Townhouses At 154 East 78th Street, Upper East Side

Yoseif Partners has filed applications for a five-story, single-family residence spanning 152-154 East 78th Street, on the Upper East Side. Previous plans called for the combination of two existing four-story townhouses, which would hold three residential units, but new applications would produce a 13,050 square-foot building. Demolition applications have yet to be filed for the townhouses, and Sawyer|Berson is designing.

Development Site At 169 Graham Avenue Could Yield Residential Building, Williamsburg

A building assemblage at 169 Graham Avenue, which includes 150 Meserole Street, in eastern Williamsburg, could yield a new 13,700 square-foot residential development. The 5,625 square-foot parcel was acquired in February for $7.5 million by SYG Realty, and permits to demolish the existing three-story structure at 169 Graham Avenue were approved in May. According to Brownstoner, new building applications have yet to be filed.
