Neighborhood Restore HDFC has filed applications for a four-story, three-unit residential building at 1143 Hancock Street, in southern Bushwick, located three blocks north from the Halsey Street stop on the J train. There will be 4,376 square feet, and one of the three units will be a duplex. Suzanna Tharian’s Greenwich Village-based Stat Architecture is the applicant of record, and the site’s three-story predecessor was demolished back in 2007.
Earlier this week, YIMBY revealed renderings for 340 Flatbush Avenue, which could become Brooklyn’s tallest tower. But the borough’s current tallest building, Ava DoBro (formerly Avalon Willoughby West), is inching toward completion a few blocks away at 100 Willoughby Street.
A relatively short over century-old apartment building on the Upper East Side will be remaining the way it is, at least for the near future. On Tuesday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission heard a presentation to bring 1143 Fifth Avenue from its current seven-story height to 13 stories. The overall design of the proposed building, if it were new for a vacant lot, would likely have received (or been close to receiving) approval from the LPC, but as an addition, it was too much for the commissioners (and the public, which showed up en masse).
Two big developments, Hallets Point and Astoria Cove, are in the works on Astoria’s waterfront, but smaller developers have begun arriving on the neighborhood’s northern edge. The latest addition is an eight-story mixed-use project planned for 21-07 Astoria Boulevard.
Excavation kicked off this past summer for the 35-story, 270-unit mixed-use building planned at 44-26 Purves Street, in Long Island City, and now the structure is finally rising, with concrete and rebar now to the second floor, per The Court Square Blog. Brause Realty and the Gotham Organization are developing, while FXFOWLE is designing. The project will also have 2,600 square feet of retail space on the ground floor. Completion is expected in late 2017, per on-site signage.
