Landmarks Rejects Six-Story Addition at 1143 Fifth Avenue, Upper East Side

A relatively short over century-old apartment building on the Upper East Side will be remaining the way it is, at least for the near future. On Tuesday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission heard a presentation to bring 1143 Fifth Avenue from its current seven-story height to 13 stories. The overall design of the proposed building, if it were new for a vacant lot, would likely have received (or been close to receiving) approval from the LPC, but as an addition, it was too much for the commissioners (and the public, which showed up en masse).

Blackhouse Proposes 740-Foot Tall Mixed-Use Tower At 470 Eleventh Avenue Amid Ownership Disputes

Over the summer, YIMBY brought you news on the stalled-out mixed-use proposal by Kuafu Properties at 470 Eleventh Avenue, in Midtown West. Amid disputes over the property’s ownership, Blackhouse Development has proposed their own 740-foot-tall mixed-use building at the site, Curbed reports. Los Angeles-based M-Rad is designing, and although the rendering is conceptual, the project would feature 160 hotel suites and 15 condominiums. The initial project, dubbed Hudson Rise Hotel, was to rise 47 stories and contain 47 condominiums and a hotel.

35-Story, 270-Unit Residential Tower Rises At 44-26 Purves Street, Long Island City

Excavation kicked off this past summer for the 35-story, 270-unit mixed-use building planned at 44-26 Purves Street, in Long Island City, and now the structure is finally rising, with concrete and rebar now to the second floor, per The Court Square Blog. Brause Realty and the Gotham Organization are developing, while FXFOWLE is designing. The project will also have 2,600 square feet of retail space on the ground floor. Completion is expected in late 2017, per on-site signage.
