New Look: 10 Huron Street, Greenpoint

Northern Greenpoint has construction on every corner, but the biggest new building headed to the formerly quaint waterfront neighborhood is a 39-story tower at 145-155 West Street, once home to the Huxley Envelope factory. Mack Real Estate and Palin Enterprises demolished the large single-story building in January, and now they’re driving piles for the planned 392-foot-tall high rise between Huron and India Streets on the East River. When YIMBY stopped by the site, we found this rendering tacked to the construction fence.

NYU Expansion

Demolition Prep Underway At 20 East Houston Street, Site of NYU’s Greenwich Village Expansion

Earlier this summer, YIMBY brought you news of New York University receiving court approval for their planned 1.9 million square-foot expansion in Greenwich Village, and now plans to demolish the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center, at 20 East Houston Street, are in the works. Per DNAinfo, the facility will close sometime this upcoming fall semester, but architects Davis Brody Bond and Kieran Timberlake will conduct tests on the property immediately. Design plans for the new mixed-use academic building are expected before 2016.

BAM To Link Three Properties At 651 Fulton Street With Single-Story Base, Fort Greene

The Brooklyn Academy of Music is planning to connect three Fort Greene properties with a unified single-story base, according to The New York Times.The buildings include the three-story BAM Harvey Theater at 651 Fulton Street, a vacant lot at No. 653, and the ground floor of the condominium building at 230 Ashland Place. The $25 million project will link BAM’s spaces, while creating visual art galleries and amenities, including a cafe. Construction will begin soon, and completion is scheduled for September 2017, with Mitchell Giurgola Architects designing.
