The famed Rizzoli Bookstore at 31 West 57th Street has bitten the dust, to be replaced by a “seven-star” hotel developed by the LeFrak Organization and Vornado Realty. The 109-year-old shop between Fifth and Sixth Avenues shuttered a year ago, despite the efforts of preservationists who tried to get Landmarks protection for the interior.
Property owner Naftali Steinmetz has filed new applications for a four-story, four-unit residential building, previously filed in 2013, for the currently vacant lot at 1260 43rd Street, in Borough Park. The building will measure 5,505 square feet, and Asher Hershkowitz is designing. The site’s three-story predecessor had been demolished in early 2014.
Property owner Raj Ramasaran has filed applications for a five-story, five-unit residential building measuring 4,125 square feet at the vacant lot of 483 Waverly Avenue, in southern Clinton Hill. Charles Schmitt is designing the project.
The expansion and conversion of the 16-story building at 10 Madison Square West, in the Flatiron District, is well under way. The building will eventually stand 23 stories and contain 125 condominiums, as well as commercial retail space. YIMBY covered the project in 2013, and now, A Fine Blog predicts nearly all 125 units are likely in contract. Completion is likely expected by 2016, and Alan Wanzenberg is designing.
Hawthorne Brothers LLC has filed applications for two four-story, eight-unit residential buildings each measuring nearly 5,800 square feet at 192-194 Hawthorne Street, in Prospect Lefferts Gardens. BTE Design Services is designing, and an existing 2.5-story wood-framed structure was approved for demolition in March.
