Empire Hotel Group has sold the development site at 993 Sixth Avenue, between West 36th and 37th Street, in Midtown, to an anonymous LLC for $54.3 million. Permits have been approved since 2014 for an 18-story, 122-key hotel, which would measure 44,330 square feet. Edgar Rawlings’ Lower Manhattan-based Rawlings Architects is the architect of record. Last summer, construction kicked off at 64 East 1st Street, in the East Village, where MGM Property Group and Ekstein Development are building a six-story, six-unit residential building, and now steel-frame construction is up to the third floor, according to EV Grieve. The full-floor condominiums, which average 2,185 square feet, will have two-bedroom configurations and outdoor terraces. GF55 Partners is designing, and completion is expected in 2016.
Back in February of 2014, a number of developers toured the former Bayview Correctional Facility, an eight-story, 100,000 square-foot complex, at 550 West 20th Street, in West Chelsea, after the city issued a request for proposals just months earlier. Now, Empire State Development has awarded NoVo Foundation a 99-year lease to redevelop the property, according to Commercial Observer. NoVo Foundations and the Goren Group plan to transform the building into the Women’s Building, which will house a women’s rights organization. The project will include community space, art installations, and a restaurant.
Back in early 2014, YIMBY featured a first look at speculative plans for the redevelopment of the American Bible Society. That concept fell through, but we followed up with a post that included a prospective design by architects Goldstein Hill & West. Now, Skidmore Owings & Merrill has been tapped to design the project, and thanks to a tipster’s submission of diagrams for the project, we were able to create renderings that are a close approximation of what the building will ultimately look like.
In August, YIMBY revealed the first renderings for 532 Neptune Avenue, the 41-story residential tower set to replace Trump Village Shopping Center in Coney Island. Now we have a look at the retail portion of the development at 626 Sheepshead Bay Road, which is across the street from the big development site at Neptune Avenue and West 6th Street.
