125 West 57th Street Rises Above Street Level in Midtown, Manhattan

Construction has risen above street level on 125 West 57th Street, a 26-story commercial building along Billionaires’ Row in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by FXCollaborative and developed by Alchemy Properties ABR Partners and Cain International, the 440-foot-tall structure will yield 185,000 square feet of Class A office space and a new ground-floor home for the Calvary Baptist Church, which has operated on the site since 1883. Leading Builders Group is the general contractor for the property, which is located between Sixth and Seventh Avenues between Christian de Portzamparc‘s One57 and SHoP Architects111 West 57th Street.

350-Unit Residential Development Unveiled for at 499 President Street in Gowanus, Brooklyn

This week The Brodsky Organization announced the acquisition of 499 President Street in Gowanus, Brooklyn. The developer will partner with Avery Hall Investments to begin construction on a mixed-use multi-family residential building. When completed, 499 President Street will include 350 market-rate and affordable rental apartments, a range of resident amenities, and 20,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. SLCE Architects is responsible for the design.

The Gilder Center Opens at The American Museum of Natural History on Manhattan’s Upper West Side 

YIMBY attended the grand opening of the Gilder Center, a new five-story wing of the American Museum of Natural History at 415 Columbus Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Designed by Jeanne Gang of Studio Gang with Davis Brody Bond as the executive architect, the $465 million project involved the construction of 190,000 square feet of new exhibition space and 40,000 square feet of renovations to existing portions of the museum. Buro Happold was the façade consultant; W&W Glass, LLC supplied and installed the engineered custom curtain wall facades, skylights and entrance systems; Arup performed structural engineering and acoustic and audiovisual consulting; and Tishman Construction Company of New York was the general contractor for the facility, which is located by the intersection of Columbus Avenue and West 79th Street.
