OMA Reveals Renderings for New Museum Expansion at 235 Bowery on the Lower East Side

This week, the New Museum announced plans for a second building that will nearly double the institution’s footprint to 115,277 square feet at 235 Bowery on the Lower East Side. The structure, designed by OMA’s Shohei Shigematsu and Rem Koolhaas in collaboration with Cooper Robertson, will rise 174 feet between Prince Street and Stanton Street. At seven stories high, the new development will dedicate three floors to gallery space, along with a cafe, bookstore, offices, community and education programs, art storage, and terraces concealed in triangular cutouts on the top three levels.

The first official DOB applications have been filed for JPMorgan’s new 57-story supertall office tower at 270 Park Avenue in Midtown East, Manhattan. YIMBY last reported on the 270 Park Avenue site when developer JPMorgan Chase filed a text amendment with City Planning for a tower designed by Foster + Partners Architects. Located between East 47th Street and East 48th Street, the lot is five blocks north of Grand Central Station, serviced by Metro North, as well as 4, 5, 6, 7, and S trains.

FAA Permits Submitted for 841-Foot-Tall Tower at 30 Journal Square, in Jersey City

Permits have been submitted to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for work on 30 Journal Square, a proposed 841-foot-tall mixed-use skyscraper in Jersey City. Located at the southern corner of Slip Avenue and Bergen Avenue, the project is being designed by Morris Adjmi Architects and developed by Kushner Companies, which acquired the site for $3.575 million in 2013. The permits filed are for work between December 2019 and December 2022, so activity at the site could begin by the end of the year.
