The prominence of the Hudson Yards district continues to grow, and today, Tishman Speyer has announced the official start of construction for The Spiral. The 1,031-foot tall building will be the fifth supertall added to the area. An event to mark the occasion will be held this afternoon, and will conclude with the planting of a 20-foot Alaskan Cedar tree to serve as Hudson Boulevard & Park’s annual Christmas tree.
Designed in a collaboration between NAVA and DXA Studios, updated renderings of 14 White Street have been released following previous unanimous approval from New York City’s Landmark Preservation Commission. The seven-story building will comprise 29,000 square feet containing a mix of residential and retail accommodations.
The redevelopment of the southwest corner of the West Village by the Hudson River is often overlooked, but that part of the neighborhood is about to get a healthy dose of modernization. One project now under construction is 111 Leroy Street, which will create nine apartments and five townhouses. Work has progressed significantly since our last look, and façade installation appears imminent. Property Markets Group is responsible for the development.
Permits are now processing for a sizable new three-story building at 640 Columbia Street, in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The filings confirm movement on a new multi-level commercial distribution center by Dov Hertz and the Innovo Property Group, making this the second large warehouse by the pair in the Five Boroughs. Their first project, still under development, is 2050 Bruckner Boulevard in the Bronx. The Red Hook site would be right next to IKEA, with close proximity to the I-278 and I-478, which would give trucks quick access to Manhattan, Long Island, and New Jersey through Staten Island.
Permits have been filed for a four-story public school facility at 922 78th Street in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn. The development, positioned in a heavily residential neighborhood, will better suit the existing PS 127 for a rising student population. The building is sixteen blocks away from the Fort Hamilton subway station, serviced by N, Q, and W trains. The NYC School Construction Authority is responsible for the applications.
