New construction has been growing in southern Bushwick for a few years, but small homeowners are just beginning to cash in on the rising rents by adding extra stories and apartments to their homes. Yesterday the owner of a humble brick house at 223 Central Avenue in Bushwick filed plans to triple the size of the two-story building.
Officially proposed last summer, New Jersey’s Economic Development Authority has approved $93 million in tax breaks for Kushner Companies and KABR Group’s planned 56-story, 744-unit mixed-use tower at One Journal Square, in Jersey City’s Journal Square district. According to the Jersey Journal, WeWork is expected to lease 101,000 square feet of office space on seven floors, and 78,000 square feet of retail space is planned on the bottom two levels. A second tower is also reportedly in the works, although completion of the first is expected in the spring of 2018.
Back in September, the latest renderings were revealed of HFZ Capital Group’s 33-story mixed-use hotel and residential building planned at 12-20 West 40th Street, along Bryant Park in Midtown, and now Tectonic has the latest photos of its construction. The structure is currently six stories above street level and features a slight setback past the fifth floor. The first five floors are flush with the existing street wall. Upon completion in early 2017, The Bryant (not to be confused with the Bryant Park Hotel) will have 230 hotel rooms and 57 condos, as well as retail space and a restaurant on the ground floor.
