Façade Work Resumes at One Seaport, aka 161 Maiden Lane, in the Financial District

Installation of the reflective glass curtain wall of One Seaport, aka 161 Maiden Lane, is finally progressing in the Financial District. The slender, reinforced concrete superstructure stands 60 stories high and is located to the immediate south of the South Street Seaport District. The 200,000-square-foot project is being designed by Hill West Architects and developed by Fortis Property Group LLC, with Ray Builders as the current contractor. Groves & Co is serving as the interior designer and Douglas Elliman is handling sales of the units.

The famous Acme Smoked Fish Corporation is pursuing a major expansion of its existing facilities in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Located at 30 Gem Street, the Acme Smoked Fish factory was founded in 1905 and is now one of the country’s leading producers and distributors of smoked fish and pickled fish products by volume.

Developers Reveal a New 16-Story Affordable Housing Block at 1769 Jerome Avenue in Mt. Hope, The Bronx

Residential development firm Bronx Pro Group, which specializes in the construction of affordable housing properties, has released preliminary renderings of a new, 16-story mixed-use building in Mount Hope, The Bronx. The proposed building is located at 1769 Jerome Avenue and could yield 175 rental units, along with 7,667 square feet for a retail tenant and community facilities. The project scope also includes the design of pedestrian areas and improved landscaping.

Permits Filed for 2064 Grand Concourse in Tremont, The Bronx

Permits have been filed for a 17-story affordable senior housing building at 2064 Grand Concourse in Tremont, The Bronx. Located between East Burnside Avenue and East 180th Street, the lot is three blocks from the 182nd-183rd Streets subway station, serviced by the B and D trains, as well as a few blocks from the Burnside Avenue station, serviced by the 4 train. Thorobird Companies is listed as the owner behind the applications.

Central Park Tower Surpasses Chicago’s Willis Tower On Way To Tallest Roof Height In Western Hemisphere

Central Park Tower, aka 217 West 57th Street, has surpassed the 1,450-foot-tall Willis Tower (née Sears Tower) to claim the title of highest roof in the Western Hemisphere. The Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill-designed supertall is being developed by Extell and will soon top-out at 1,550 feet tall over Billionaires’ Row.

Hauser & Wirth Gallery Tops Out at 542 West 22nd Street in Chelsea

YIMBY last reported on 542 West 22nd Street back in 2015, when permits were filed for a new five-story, 31,158-square-foot art gallery. Now, the reinforced concrete superstructure is topped-out, and will soon be home to Zurich-based Hauser & Wirth, which is also the developer of the project. The building, designed by Annabelle Selldorf, is located between Tenth Avenue and Eleventh Avenue in West Chelsea, and stands 95 feet tall.

New Affordable Housing Project Announced at 2126 Mapes Avenue in Belmont, the Bronx

Renderings have been released for 2126 Mapes Avenue, a new six-story building located in the Belmont neighborhood of the Bronx. The project is being developed in collaboration with Bronx Pro Group and designed by Curtis + Ginsberg Architects. When complete, the building will contain 30 rentals that range from one- to three-bedroom layouts. An affordable housing development, residences are reserved exclusively for individuals and families between 30 percent and 80 percent area median income.

Located between Valentine Avenue and Briggs Avenue, the lot is five blocks east of the Bedford Park Boulevard subway station, serviced by the 4 train. 44 Union Square’s Space Frame Dome Structurally Completed in Union Square

The curved dome atop 44 Union Square, the former headquarters of Tammany Hall, is structurally completed and the geometric glass panels that enclose the lattice frame are beginning to be installed. The renovation is designed by BKSK Architects and developed by Edifice Real Estate Partners. CNY Group is in charge of construction on the historic, 90-year-old landmarked structure, which is being expanded to 70,348 square feet. Two new floors will be housed beneath the dome and receive abundant natural daylight. Reading International (RDI), who purchased the building eighteen years ago, helped to advance the project thanks a $57.5 million construction loan they secured from Bank of Ozarks and Fisher Brothers.

Façade Work on Hill West Architect’s 7 West 57th Street Nears Completion in Midtown

The glass curtain wall installation on the main southern elevation of 7 West 57th Street, a new mixed-use residential building designed by Hill West Architects, is drawing close to completion. All 19 floors above the ground level are enclosed in the envelope, including the metal grille that was recently installed on the third floor. The site is located between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue along Billionaires’ Row, and sits directly adjacent to the SOM-designed Solow Building, aka 9 West 57th Street. The 237-foot-tall, reinforced concrete structure is being developed by Solow Realty & Development Group, which purchased the property for $25,550,000 back in 2005.
