321-Unit Partial Residential Conversion Filed For 44-Story Waldorf Astoria Hotel At 301 Park Avenue, Midtown

Last week, YIMBY brought you news that the Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to calendar sections of the interior of the 44-story, 1,413-key Waldorf Astoria New York hotel at 301 Park Avenue, located on an entire Midtown block. Now, as part of a planned mixed-use conversion, property owner Anbang Insurance Group has filed applications to convert large swaths of the tower into residential units.

Foundation Work Underway For 12-Story, Nine-Unit Residential Project At 117 West 21st Street, Chelsea

Foundation work is underway on the 12-story, nine-unit residential building under development at 117 West 21st Street, in Chelsea. Dubbed The Twenty1, the latest building permits indicate the project will measure 32,541 square feet and rise 120 feet above street level to its roof. The residential units will be condominiums and should average 3,616 square feet apiece. There will be a single townhouse-style unit, six full-floor units, and two duplexes. The Amirian Group is the developer and GRADE Architecture is behind the design. Completion is expected in 2017.

Liberty Island’s Planned 26,000-Square-Foot Statue Of Liberty Museum Approved

Plans for the 26,000-square-foot Statue of Liberty Museum on Liberty Island were approved earlier this week, with crews holding a groundbreaking ceremony at the site yesterday, Curbed NY reported. The main feature of the FXFOWLE Architects-designed structure, of course, will be its museum, which will include a mural called The Liberty Star, the Immersive Theater, the Engagement Gallery, and the Inspiration Gallery. There will also be a bookstore and administrative offices. The project is a joint effort by The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, Inc., and the National Park Service. Openning is expected in 2019.


46-31 Bowne Street

Twin Two-Story, Two-Family Houses Coming To 46-31 Bowne Street, East Flushing

A Flushing-based property owner has filed applications for twin two-story, two-family houses at 46-31 and 46-33 Bowne Street, in East Flushing. The buildings will measure 2,557 square feet each, and across both, the residential units should average 859 square feet apiece. There will be a total of two 0ff-street parking spaces. Chang Hwa Tan’s Flushing-based archirecture firm is the architect of record. The 50-foot-wide, 4,750-square-foot plot is currently occupued by a two-story house. Demolition permits were filed in September.
