Mayor Bill de Blasio recently announced a $40 million allocation of funds to restore the historic Children’s Pool and the former Rose Garden in Prospect Park’s Vale of Cashmere. The capital fund is the largest single allocation for maintenance, upkeep, and restoration since 1867, when Brooklyn’s most historic park first opened to the public.
The affordable housing lottery has launched for 30 Kent Street, an 11-story mixed-use building in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Designed by Kutnicki Bernstein Architects, the structure yields 80 residences. Available on NYC Housing Connect are 24 units for residents at 80 to 130 percent of the area median income (AMI), ranging in eligible income from $51,463 to $167,570.
Demolition work is ramping up at 343 Madison Avenue, the site of a 1,050-foot commercial supertall in Midtown East and number seven on our end-of-year countdown. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by Boston Properties, the 55-story structure will rise from a 25,000-square-foot rectangular site between East 44th and 45th Streets that is currently occupied by a 15-story building that formerly housed the Metropolitan Transportation Authority headquarters. The new tower will yield 832,613 square feet of office space, 5,357 square feet of retail space, and 5,357 square feet of subterranean circulation paths to Grand Central Terminal and the future East Side Access project. Rezoning plans for 343 Madison Avenue were approved by the City Council in mid November.
NYCHA has revealed its plans to renovate Frederick E. Samuel Apartments, a 42-building affordable housing portfolio in Harlem. The Frederick Samuel Apartments stretch from West 139th Street to West 147th Street, between Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard and Lenox Avenue. The portfolio includes 664 units and houses 1,379 residents, some of whom reside in buildings more than 100 years old.
Permits have been filed for a 13-story residential building at 2829 Valentine Avenue in Jerome Park, The Bronx. Located between East 197th and East 198th Streets, the interior lot is three blocks north of the Kingsbridge Road subway station, serviced by the B and D trains. Boris Babakhanov of Bolex GC Corp. is listed as the owner behind the applications.
