Permits have been filed for a seven-story mixed-use building at 2321 Belmont Avenue, in Belmont, The Bronx. Located between East 183rd Street and Crescent Avenue, the interior site is five blocks west of the Bronx Zoo. Less than a mile north is the Fordham train stop on the MetroNorth, and the 182nd-183rd Streets Station is less than one mile to the west, serviced by the B and D trains. Golan Darvish of Belmont Ave 2321 Corporation is listed as the owner behind the applications.
Major progress has been made for Brooklyn’s first supertall over the past several weeks. Excavation has continued apace, and more materials have also been delivered to 9 DeKalb Avenue as the year wraps up. The tower is the 6th-tallest building under construction in YIMBY’s end-of-year countdown, and will dramatically change the skyline of Brooklyn in the coming years. Designed by SHoP Architects and developed by JDS Development and the Chetrit Group, the 1,066-foot-tall residential and mixed-use project will house approximately 500 housing units atop its rejuvenation of an historic retail podium.
Back in June of 2015, the McSam Hotel Group disclosed plans to incorporate a portion of the façade of a six-story Gothic church, at 334 West 36th Street into a new hotel development. Today, construction is nearly complete, with interior fit outs underway. Contrary to the depiction in the rendering, it appears the old Gothic church was completely razed, with a facsimile of the facade replacing the extant original.

Located between East 156th and East 157th Streets, the corner site is one block east of the neighborhood’s main thoroughfare, Third Avenue. Less than a half mile east is the Jackson Avenue subway station serviced by the 2 and 5 trains. New York City’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development is listed as the owner behind the applications. In August of 2018, a proposed remedy was released by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) to address brownfield contamination so the site can be redeveloped.
Last week, the final piece of the third and highest apex of Jean Nouvel’s first residential skyscraper was anchored and installed over Midtown. 53 West 53rd Street now stands 1,050 feet tall, and is currently the 7th-tallest skyscraper under construction in New York City. With its distinct pointed crown and dark diagrid facade, it is certainly a very unique building, and has been in the making for over a decade. The tower is being developed by Hines, while SLCE Architects and Adamson Associates are the architects of record. The condominiums are being marketed by Corcoran.
