An anonymous Brooklyn-based LLC has filed applications to renovate and expand the two-story, two-family house at 2019 West 6th Street, in Gravesend. The project would also build two new three-story, two-family residential buildings on either side of the existing structure, at 2017 West 6th Street and 2021 West 6th Street, respectively. The existing house will see its residential space increase to 2,425 square feet, while the two new buildings will each measure 3,388 square feet. Across all three buildings, the apartments should average a family-sized 1,251 square feet apiece. Two single-car, 300-square-foot garages will also be built. Pirooz Soltanizadeh’s Jamaica-based Royal Engineering is the applicant of record.
Two weeks ago, the Landmarks Preservation Commission designated 11 of its 12 calendared properties in Midtown East as city landmarks, part of its Greater East Midtown Initiative. On Tuesday, the twelfth site received its designation, as the LPC declared the former Citicorp Center, now known as 601 Lexington Avenue, a city landmark.
Last year, Michael Shvo and Russian billionaire Vladislav Doronin agreed to pay $500 million for 20 floors of the Crown Building at 730 Fifth Avenue, on the corner of 57th Street. Now Shvo has filed plans to convert most of the 26-story office building into condominiums and a hotel.
In September, the Landmarks Preservation Commission put the Morningside Heights Historic District on its calendar. The next step, a public hearing, was held on Tuesday, and dozens showed up. While there was some opposition, most who spoke rose to support designation of the proposed district.
Construction is now eight stories above street level on the 88-story, 391-unit residential tower under development at 15 Hudson Yards, located on the corner of West 30th Street and Eleventh Avenue, in the Hudson Yards district. Progress on the tower can be seen thanks to photos posted to the YIMBY Forums. Building permits indicate the 910-foot-tall project will eventually measure 980,274 square feet.
